Swans are known in the natural world for their graceful appearance, which is essentially what this style of towbar aims to replicate. This tow bar is designed to be much less intrusive and is rapidly growing in popularity.
Detachable (usually a swan neck)
A detachable towbar features a quick-release mechanism, meaning that removing the towbar neck and storing it in your garage or boot is a quick and easy process when you have finished using it.
You can get both swan neck and flange towbars in fixed and detachable options, with the detachable models being a little more expensive.
When it comes to choosing the best model for you, take into consideration storage options - although a detachable towbar might sound like an excellent choice, do you have somewhere secure to store the towbar when not in use. Additionally, it can be a very frustrating experience to drive somewhere to collect a trailer or caravan only to realise you have forgotten to put the towbar back on since the last time you removed it.
Fixed towbars are less expensive, and once installed, they are always available should the unexpected happen. However, they do not necessarily look nice. You must also never forget to consider the additional length of your vehicle when reversing, as it can be easy to forget when you are not towing anything.
